Lapses in academic integrity existed long before the rise of our current communication, computer, and internet technologies. These new technologies do offer new challenges and opportunities. We will examine the issues that these new technologies present based on current data and reports. We will then discuss specific systems and tools that can assist instructors in securing and monitoring for academic dishonesty for both testing, and writing assignments. We will also discuss potential benefits and pitfalls along with assignment and assessment design that may reduce opportunities for dishonest behaviors.
