Thomas N Saari MD, FAAP

Dr. Saari is a Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

He served 16 years as the head of the Immunization Committee for the Wisconsin Chapter of the AAP and 9 years as the chair of the Wisconsin Council for Immunization Practices until his retirement in 2005.

Saari was a member of the AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases (the " Red Book Committee ") for 6 years and recently served on the AAP Immunization Task Force for immunization finance and vaccine barcoding. He also worked with the CDC on hepatitis, bioterrorism, vaccine safety and community immunization services projects.

Saari was the director of immunization services for Physicians Plus and UW Health and served on the executive committee of the Dane County Immunization Coalition from its inception. Saari was Wisconsin’s “Pediatrician of the Year “ in 1993, he received the 1995 AAP “ Special Achievement Award” and in 2005, he was honored with the City of Madison / Dane County Public Service Award and the Wisconsin Public Health Association’s Distinguished Service Award for his immunization advocacy.
