Sara Shackleton

Sara Shackleton, Associate Division Manager of the Division of
Economic Support and Work Services in the Dane County Department of
Human Services.

She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has
worked for the Dane County in the Economic Support division for 26
years. She is responsible for personnel and operations in her
division. They determine eligibility for and manage ongoing
eligibility for individuals and families applying for Medicaid
(including Badgercare), FoodShare, Child Care subsidies and Wisconsin
Works (W-2)in Dane County. They serve about 1100 new applicants and
21,000 ongoing cases each month. Of these almost all are applicants
of Medicaid and 17,900 are ongoing Medicaid cases. Over the years,
she has seen public policy go from "The Great Society" to "everybody
works".
