Despite advances in the systemic treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer to the liver, resection continues to be critical to the prospects of long-term survival. Surgeons involved in the care of these patients must participate not only in the technical aspects of their treatments, but in the complex decisions with respect to the role and proper timing of systemic and surgical therapies. Dr. Clary presents a discussion of the role of the surgeon as "oncologist" in the management of these patients.
