Maureen Smith and Barb Bowers will help define Type 2 Translational Research, discuss the importance of incorporating the "end user" into your research, and address challenges and opportunities of this growing field of research. Other issues addressed include the use of qualitative and mixed methodology in Type 2 translational research and specific advice for how to approach the requirements of the 2009 ICTR Type 2 Translational Research funding programs. |

| 04/23/2008 | ![]() | J. South-Paul View descriptionClinical investigation has traditionally focused on conditions that are best studied in controlled environments. Furthermore, women have only been equitably represented among participants enrolled during the last 10-15 years. Thus, many of the findings of such studies have been difficult to translate into less controlled environments such as the community or into underrepresented minority and disadvantaged groups.
Strategies to incorporate diverse populations groups into research in the academic health center and the community setting are discussed. One such strategy is the use of community advisory boards that provide community stakeholders a voice in the projects implemented in their communities. Incorporating community advisory boards as well as attending to the principles of community-oriented research facilitate and encourage research that contributes positively to the health of communities and the elimination of health disparities. |
| 04/17/2008 | ![]() | B. Crabtree View descriptionAre you ready to take advantage of the growing opportunities in interdisciplinary and collaborative research?
• What are the issues, challenges and benefits of interdisciplinary research?
• How can you eliminate barriers to successful collaborations?
Establishing a track record of successful collaborations can improve your chances of future funding.
Listen to an interesting discussion and exploration of the opportunities and challenges of collaborative research. |
